TOPEKA, Kan. -- Mara Crawford, 49, died Monday (Dec. 3, 2001) at her home in Topeka.
She was born Aug. 25, 1952, at Oberlin to Elmer J. and Colleen (White) Kathka. She was raised in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1970. She attended Kansas State University.
In 1971, she married Michael Machart at Oberlin. On Jan. 3, 1988, she married Robert Lyle Crawford at Oberlin.
She was a certified insurance counselor. She lived in McCook from 1971 to 1978, Oberlin from 1978 to 1999, and moved to Topeka in 1999.
She was a member of the Oberlin Methodist Church, Aquarius Club, past state president of the Business and Professional Women, Oberlin American Legion Auxiliary, and was inducted into the Kansas BPW Hall of Fame in June of 2001.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Warren and Pearl (Price) White, and Julius and Cora (Barrett) Kathka.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle Crawford of Topeka; her parents, Elmer and Violet Kathka of Oberlin, and Colleen Kathka of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Marcus Machart and wife, Karen Nichols-Machart of Washington, D.C., Mandel Machart and wife, Pramela of Manhattan, Kan., and Matthew Machart of Beloit, Kan.; two brothers, Steve Kathka of Oberlin, and Warren Kathka of Fort Worth, Texas; one step-brother, Kirk Brown of Oberlin; one sister, Marrianne Lentz of Jefferson City, Mo.; two step-sisters, Janie Brown of Denver, and Jackie Frickey and husband, Willard of Hays, Kan.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the Oberlin Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin, and Thursday, 9 a.m. until the service time at the church.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Kansas BPW Educational Foundation- Mara's Fund.
