CLAYTON, Kan. -- Virginia M. (Howard) Griffith, 81, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.

She was born March 7, 1920, at Stockton, Kan., to Fred and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Howard. She graduated from Logan High School and Kansas State University.

On May 31, 1948, she married Norman Jay Griffith at Manhattan, Kan. She was a homemaker, and lived her entire married life in the Clayton area.

She was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for 50 years, was a 4-H leader, a member of the L.D. Club, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Jay of Clayton; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Griffith and wife, Carol of Clayton, and Michael Griffith and wife, Jane of Atwood; one sister, Peggy Goodman of Orland, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Clayton with the Rev. Charles Keller officiating. Interment will be a the Clayton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Brantley Funeral Home of Atwood, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Clayton United Methodist Church.
