Lenora Marie Johnson
WESTCLIFFE, Colo. -- Lenora Marie Johnson, 95, died Sunday (Dec. 16, 2001) at Westcliffe.
She was born Nov. 11, 1906, at McCook to Joseph Alfred and Lenora Mary (Smith) Schmidt. She was raised and attended school in McCook.
In 1926 she married Arthur Johnson at McCook. They owned and operated a restaurant. In 1959 they moved to Denver, Colo. He preceded her in death that same year.
Later she became head of housekeeping at St. Luke's Hospital in Denver where she worked until her retirement in 1972. She moved to Westcliffe.
She was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church, Silver Cliff Ladies Club and the Custer County Senior Center. She volunteered through the Green Thumb Program and assisted in numerous activities including the sheriff's department, library and courthouse. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; one son, Joseph Earl Johnson in 1929; six brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur and wife, Pauline of Overland, Mo., Donald and wife, Millicent of Westminster, Colo., and Wayne and wife, Myra of Westcliffe; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 11 a.m. MST, at the Hope Lutheran Church in Westcliffe with the Rev. Wayne Riddering officiating. Inurnment will be at McCook at a later date.
