Raymond E. Callahan
GRAND ISLAND -- Raymond E. Callahan, 60, died Monday (Dec. 24, 2001) at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln as a result of a heart attack.
He was born Oct. 15, 1941, on a farm west of Wood River to William and Lena (Bohnardt) Callahan. He was raised in Wood River, and graduated from Wood River High School in 1959. Following high school he joined the Army National Guard.
In October 1963, he married Diana Ritterbush. They lived in Sitka, Alaska for four years before returning to Wood River. He was employed by Island Glass, Fair Acres Dairy, and later New Holland where he worked for more than 20 years. He retired due to disability.
On Aug. 8, 1992, he married Chris Maloy at Grand Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Jerome, Bernard and Melvin Callahan.
Survivors include his wife, Chris of Grand Island; two sons, Dave of Wood River, and Steven and wife, Rashelle of Cairo; two daughters, Roxanne tenBensel and husband, Corey of Alma, and Sara Wells and husband, Brian of McCook; two step-daughters, Jennifer Brummund and husband, Barry of Omaha, and Tanya Gebhard of Grand Island; two brothers, Floyd and wife, Rose of Grand Island, and Frank of Wood River; two sisters, Evelyn Petersen of Cozad, and Joan Rosinski and husband, Rich of South San Francisco, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. A private interment service for the family will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is tonight until 8 p.m. at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The family will receive friends until 7 p.m. Memorials may be given in his name.
