GRAND ISLAND -- Ruth Vieth, 78, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island.
She was born April 8, 1923, at Dickens to Leo and Anastasia (Wasia) Kotschwar. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island. After graduating from high school, she taught in rural schools for two years.
On Sept. 26, 1943, she married Robert H. Vieth at Alhambra, Calif. They farmed east of Grand Island in Merrick County until their retirement when they moved to Grand Island.
She served on the school board of Northwest High School after returning to Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert and wife, Sandy of Cairo, and Gary of Honolulu, Hawaii; one daughter, Pamela Lammers and husband, Jerry of Pleasanton; two brothers, Kent Kotschwar of McCook and Stanley "Jiggs" Kotschwar; three sisters, Jackie Boehm, LaVerna Ely and Phyllis Traphagan; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island with the Rev. John D. Russell officiating. Cremation followed the service, and a private inurnment will be at a later date at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
