EMPORIA, Kan. -- Edith A. Scott, 65, formerly of Palisade, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Newman Regional Health Center in Emporia.
She was born Aug. 11, 1936, at Olathe, Colo., to Albert Jensen and Minnie Edith (Baker) Meints. She was baptized in Olathe. In 1945, the family moved to Culbertson and then to the Palisade community in 1946. Edith was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1955.
On Aug. 21, 1955, she married George Calvin Scott at Trinity Lutheran Church in Palisade. She was employed as a telephone operator for many years. She cooked for the Youth Development Center in Kearney and most recently for the Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity in Emporia.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Emporia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George on Feb. 27, 1999; an infant sister, Caroloyn Meints; and her father-in-law, James Scott.
Survivors include one son, Steven and wife, Nancy of North Platte; one daughter, Terri Scott of Emporia; two brothers, Paul Meints and wife, Wilma of McCook and Kenneth Meints and wife, Darla of Grand Island; two foster sons, James Woodling and wife, Linda of Emporia and David Piper and wife, Sherrie of Des Moines, Iowa; her mother-in-law, Vera Scott of McCook; one grandson; two god-daughters; and two foster grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church at Palisade with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Interment will be at the Palisade Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.
Memorials may be given in her name.
