LaVada Harriette Havens
HOLDREGE -- LaVada Harriette Havens, 80, died Friday (Feb. 8, 2002) at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1921, in Minden, to Arthur and Mabel (Schneider) Pitts. She graduated from Minden High School and taught in rural schools until joining the Women's Army Corp in 1942.
On Feb 26, 1944, she married Gaines Milton Havens and the couple made their home in Holdrege after both were discharged from the military. She worked as and LPN at Brewster's Hospital in Holdrege for 20 years and later worked as a Home Supervisor at Bethphage Mission.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Shirley Pitts Kennedy.
Survivors include her husband, Gaines of Holdrege; two sons, John and wife, Sheryl Havens of McCook, and James Havens of Lander, Wyo.; three daughters, Mary Havens of Columbia, S.C., Margaret Deselms and husband, Bernhard Fuss-Hanak of Heilsbonn, Germany, and Monica Havens of Wilmer, Ala.; three sisters, Irene Anderson and Virgene Lindstrom both of Kearney, and Betty Pitts of Minden; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege with the Rev. David Sites officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska.
