Donna G. Calkins

Donna G. Calkins, 101, died Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2002) at Sunset Haven Nursing Home in Curtis.

She was born on April 12, 1900, to Perry and Harriet "Hattie"(Carothers) Coykendall at Maywood. She grew up in Maywood and graduated from Maywood High School.

On August 8, 1917, she married Julian T. Calkins in North Platte. The couple moved to McCook in 1927. She also lived six years in Denver and ten years in Albuquerque, N.M., but she spent most of her life in McCook. Donna worked as administrator of general service for the Bureau of Reclamation for 20 years before retiring.

She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church and the Church Guild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julian; one son, Duane Calkins; one daughter-in-law, Mary Calkins; and one brother, Ora Coykendall.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Julie and husband, Ron Hangartner of Solon, Iowa, and Kathi and husband, Jay Bolles of Cincinnati, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Sam Williams officiating. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be left in her name.
