OBERLIN -- Joseph "Joe" A. Brown, 78, died Friday (March 8, 2002) at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born Jan. 19, 1924, to Leslie and Vergie (Feaster) Brown in Kimball. He was raised in Oberlin and Fort Morgan, Colo.
He was a World War II Staff Sergeant paratrooper with 17th Airborne. For 50 years he was an auto and implement dealer.
He was a member of the United Church of Oberlin, the VFW of Lebanon and the Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kerry Brown; one brother, Raye Brown; and one sister, Norma Lily.
Survivors include one son, Kevin and wife, Carol Brown of Oberlin; one daughter, Kelly and husband, Bill Hellyer of Algonquin, Ill.; one brother, Don Brown of Hays; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home with Sister Marilyn Wall officiating. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, 1-8 p.m., and after 8 a.m. on Monday.
Memorials may be given to the United Church of Oberlin or the American Legion Post No. 70.
