COLUMBUS -- Edra Mikkelsen, 86, died Sunday (March 10, 2002) at her home in Columbus.
She was born July 19, 1915 to Ralph and Irene (Ruby) Boyer in Danbury. She received her education in Danbury, where she graduated from Danbury High School. She received a Regents Scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and she later received her bachelor's degree from Chadron State College and her master's in education from the University of South Dakota.
In 1933, she married Delno "Pete" Davis in Nebraska. She worked as a teacher in several public school systems including Hayes Center, Niobrara and Pierce. While teaching she lived in Tilden and Crofton. She also taught English at the University of Moscow. Her husband Pete died in 1975.
On Jan. 18, 1981, she married Rev. John Mikkelsen in Lincoln. For the past 20 years she has lived in Columbus.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, the Keystone Group, the Friendship Circle, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Pete; her second husband, John; one son-in-law, Neil Speer; one brother, Leonard Boyer; and one sister, Darlene Parker.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Speer of Friday Harbor, Wash.; four sons, Bill and wife, Lin Davis of Papillion, Joel and wife, Carolyn Mikkelson of Kearney, Mark Mikkelsen of St. Joseph, Mo., and Paul and wife, Cheryl Mikkelsen of Aurora; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment was at the Danbury-Marion Cemetery in Danbury.
