DENVER -- Esther Pate Stone, 89, died Friday (March 29, 2002) at Denver, Colo.
She was born April 5, 1912, in McCook, to Delbert O. and Drucilla (Traphagen) Pate. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska. She moved to Denver and worked for the federal government during the World War II years.
In 1953, she married Robert T. Stone. She was active in politics, served on election commissions and worked for the preservation of historic buildings. She owned and managed two apartment buildings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Stone; and eight brothers and sisters, Arvilla Anderson, Vera Kennedy, Florence Henry, Clara Dillon, Ruth Roach, Todd Pate, Raymond Pate, and Drucilla Haagensen.
Survivors include two brothers, Fred Pate of Sheridan, Wyo., and Phillip Pate of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery in McCook with the Rev. William Ryland officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in her name.
