STRATTON -- Robert L. Turpin, 59, died Friday (March 29, 2002) at his home in rural Stratton.
He was born April 18, 1942, at Haigler to Robert N. and Mary F. (Holt) Turpin. He attended school at Cedar Bluffs, and Wauneta before joining the United States Navy.
On Nov. 7, 1960, he married Geraldine G. McEvoy at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Benkelman. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1963, he began his life-long career with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and he and his family moved to Stratton. He was the Superintendent for Swanson Lake for many years, and maintained his duties until his passing -- a career that spanned more than 38 years.
He was a charter member of the Stratton Recreation Club. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert N. Turpin; step-father, William Jensen; brother, Jim Turpin; and brother-in-law, Tony Christopher.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Turpin of Stratton; mother, Mary Jensen, also of Stratton; two daughters, Shelly and husband, Jay Richardson also of Stratton and Tonya and husband, Mark Ernesti of Benkelman; two sons, Robert F. Turpin and wife, Tammy of Stratton and Vince Turpin and wife, Shauna of Benkelman; three sisters, Cora and husband, Jack Snyder of Ames, Linda and husband, Terry Sutton of Columbus and Edith Christopher, also of Columbus; one brother, Ben Turpin and wife, Kathy of Midway, Texas; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the gymnasium at Lakeside Central Elementary School in Stratton with Richard Stahly officiating. Interment with military honors will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is at Forch Funeral Chapel of Stratton today until 7 p.m. Forch Funeral Chapel of Stratton is in charge of arrangements.
