BEATRICE -- Norma Charlotte Anna Walker, 84, died Thursday (April 4, 2002) at her home in the Homestead House.
She was born on June 14, 1917, to Henry and Louise (Deeke) Scheiding in DeWitt.
On Jan. 21, 1940, she married Harold L. Walker in DeWitt. They lived on a farm southeast of DeWitt until they moved to Beatrice in 1941. She taught Sunday School for around 10 years
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, the Tabitha Circle, the Willing Helpers and the Bethel Bible Study.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Harold; one son, Daryl Walker; two brothers, Reinhardt and Alvin Scheiding; and two sisters Martha Oltman and Alvina Wiebe.
Survivors include one son, Ronald and wife, Linda Walker of Lincoln; two daughters, Gloria and her husband, Byford Schmit of Steinauer and Nancy and her husband, the Reverend Dan Spearow of Culbertson; one brother, Raymond and his wife, Elva Scheiding of Beatrice; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., in the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice with Revs. Doug Gunkelman and Dan Spearow officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice.
A family prayer service will be Monday, 10:15 a.m., in the chapel at the church.
Visitation will be Saturday, 4-9 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m., - 9 p.m., at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice and at the church one hour before the service.
A memorial has been established to the church and the Homestead House with Harley and Leona Jackson in charge.
