NORTH PLATTE -- Zachary Dion Peters, 26, died Tuesday (April 16, 2002) as a result of a car accident.
He was born Dec. 12, 1975, in North Platte to Don and Sandy Peters. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1994 and Mid Plains Community College in 1996 with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He would have completed his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2003. He graduated from Nebraska Law Enforcement Center in Sept. 1998. He was a Sgt. in the 1013th Quartermaster Army Reserve Company based in North Platte. He joined the North Platte Police Department in May 1998.
He was to be married to Denise Whitmore in August.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3, and the North Platte Police Union.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Holmes (Buzzie) Strain in 1992; and his grandmother, June Peters in 1999.
Survivors include his parents, Don and Sandy Peters; brother, Zane, grandmother, Betty Strain; grandfather, Dale Peters; his fiance, Denise Whitmore and her daughter Caitlyn, all of North Platte.
Services will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in North Platte with Reverend David Lux officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today until 9 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
Memorials may be given to the Zachary D. Peters Memorial Scholarship fund or the North Platte Police Trading Card Fund.
