OMAHA -- Donna LaVone Allen, 65, died Wednesday (April 17, 2002) at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
She was born March 11, 1937, to Ivan and Helen (Cotton) Allen at Cambridge. She graduated from Cambridge High School and received a teaching certificate from McCook Junior College.
She taught in Holdrege and Ogallala before taking a year off to complete her bachelor's degree from the University Nebraska-Lincoln, then her master in reading from the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
She was a first grade teacher at Westside Community Schools in Omaha until her retirement in 1997.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Nebraska State Education Association, National Education Association, and the Westside retirees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eldon; and one sister, Connie.
Survivors include one nephew, Michael and wife, Kim Allen of Columbus; two nieces, Karen and husband, Steve Kessler of Gretna, and Julie and husband, Alex Okray of Lincoln.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, 7020 Cass Street, in Omaha with Pastor Dana Bainbridge officiating.
Graveside services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at the Fairview Cemetery at Cambridge with the Rev. Arthur Phillips of the Cambridge United Methodist Church officiating.
West Center Chapel of Omaha is in charge of arrangements.
