Robert Leo 'Bob' Vontz

Robert Leo "Bob" Vontz, McCook, born February 17, 1930, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002.

He married Dorothy Kircher at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola on February 3, 1951.

Bob served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and worked many years for the McCook School System, retiring 7 years ago. He took great delight in being "Bus Driver Bob" and enjoyed the many students he chauffeured to sporting events over the years. In his retirement he found pleasure in following his son's auto racing career, took pride in his yard, looked forward to his daily trips to the coffee shop to visit with friends, and volunteered his time and skills to the McCook Humane Society and in maintaining Calvary Cemetery. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

His parents, Leo and Marcella Vontz; and his brother, Ron Vontz preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three children, Kathy of McCook; Robert J. and wife, Nancy, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; and Ken of McCook; eight grandchildren, (one of whom gave him special joy as she was born on his birthday); six great-grandchildren; brother, Steve and wife, Bethine, of McCook; sister-in-law, Shirley Vontz of McCook, brother-in-law, Jim and wife, Jeannie Kircher, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brother-in-law, Charles and wife, Myrna Kircher of Minot, N.D.; sister-in-law, Carol Bridgman of McCook; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Rosary will be Monday, April 22, 2002, 7:30 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 23, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation is today until time of rosary.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCok is in charge of the arrangements.
