Viola S. Millard, 88, died Wednesday (April 24, 2002) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.
She was born April 8, 1914, to John and Anna (Lalley) Stritt at Lawrence. She graduated from Indianola High School. She graduated from St. Joseph's Hospital Nursing School in 1940 as a registered nurse and worked at the POW camp in Indianola and then at the Denver Veteran's Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1976.
On July, 23, 1957, she married George Millard at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola. They raised their nieces and nephews following the death of a brother. She was a member of the catholic church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louise Broz; five brothers, Delbert, Leonard, Herman, Elmer and Clarence.
Survivors include her husband, George of McCook; two sisters, Pauline and husband, Henry Fossen of Indianola and Margaret and husband, Frankie Haag of McCook; special nieces and nephews, Robert Stritt of McCook, Lola and husband Dave Underdown and Lois Christiansen all of Aurora, CO.; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Pohl officiating.
The rosary will be said today, 7:30 p.m., at the Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
Visitation will be today in Indianola until the time of the rosary.
Memorials may be given in her name in lieu of flowers.
