L.D. 'Luren' Dunbar

MILBURN -- L.D. "Luren" Dunbar, 84, died Friday (May 24, 2002) at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.

He was born Nov. 19. 1918, to C.A. and Rita (Hyde) Dunbar at Almeria. His education began at Knobby Ridge and he graduated from Taylor High School in 1935. He taught school in Blaine County and Springview before moving to Loup County.

On March 30, 1940, he married Inez Owen in Butte. They made their home in Loup County. They were awarded the Nebraska Pioneer Family Award in 1987.

He was a member of the Loup County Historical Society, the Central Nebraska Amateur Radio Club, Knobby Ridge and Loup County School Boards, Calvery United Methodist Church, Loup County Weed Superintendent and the Loup County Extension Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Inez; one daughter, Evelyn Peterson; and five sisters, Alice Richards, Rowera Morgan, Corrine Clements, Esta McCarthy and Beulah Drake.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol and husband, Dale Webster of Oelrichs, S.D., Vicky and husband, Loran Fine of Enders and Betty and husband, Larry Fogleman of Wood River; one son, Curtis Dunbar and wife, Jeanne of Milburn; one sister, Viona and husband, Jess Sandoz; four brothers, Evan Dunbar and wife, Billie, Chet Dunbar and wife, Marion, Galen Dunbar and wife, Eldene and Willis Dunbar and wife, Enola; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today, 2 p.m., at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent with Dwight Sandoz officiating. Interment followed in the Moulton Cemetery in Loup County.
