Wilma Vaye Ginther, 85, of McCook, died Friday (May 31, 2002) at the Cambridge Hospital.
She was born January 30, 1917, to Edward S. and Grace Esther (Shrock) Shaw at Cherryvale, Kan.
She lived in Cherryvale where her father worked for the railroad until she was 11 years old and her family moved to Wilsonville.
On July 15, 1939, she married William Martin and they lived a short time in Ogallala where Willie worked on building the dam. They moved back to Lebanon and purchased the farm that had been Willie's parents. To this union two daughters, Dorothy and Lynda, were born.
In 1962, they purchased and operated the Modern Motel in McCook until Willie's death. Wilma worked at the D&S Hardware where she got acquainted with a fellow co-worker, Garnett Ginther and they married October 6, 1966, and moved to Boulder, Colo., where they lived for 20 years. Wilma worked at Neo Data and the Fashion Bar Store. Upon retirement they moved back to McCook in 1986.
Wilma was a farm wife and raised chickens and took care of the gardening and canning. She was a member of the Jolly Homemakers Extension Club for many years. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary.
Wilma very much enjoyed all her grandchildren. She enjoyed riding and going on picnics in the Colorado Mountains, dancing, traveling, fishing and shopping. She was a very good seamstress and has done beautiful crochet work.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband William Martin; and two brothers, Oscar and Edward Jr.
Survivors include: her husband, Garnett of McCook; two daughters, Dorothy Burroughs and husband, B.J. of Wichita, Kan., and Lynda Springer and husband, Loyal of Lebanon; two stepsons, Gary Ginther of Cambridge and Dennis Ginther and wife, Jackie of Brownsville, Colo.; five grandchildren, Kenneth Cozad and wife, Jeana, Sheri Miller and husband, Randall, Laura Keefe and husband, Gregg, Sheila Ritter and husband, Michael, Shelly MacFee and husband, Dennis; five step-grandchildren, Kimberly Wilcoxson and husband, Michael, Kris Carr and husband, Darren, Jonas Ginther and wife, Kate, Scott Ambrose and wife, Tana and Andrea Ambrose; 18 great-grandchildren and other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m. at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.
Visitation is Monday until 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorials are being accepted in her name.
