Doris Marie Thompson

FREMONT, Calif. --  Doris Marie Thompson, 97, formerly of McCook, died Wednesday (June 5, 2002) at Washington Hospital in Fremont, Calif.

She was born May 25, 1905, at Bladen, to William and Nancy (Lewis) Fassler. She grew up in Culbertson and graduated from Culbertson High School. She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College. She taught at the Perry School District and the East Ward school in McCook prior to her marriage.

On May 31, 1936, she married Chester Thompson at her parents home near Culbertson. They ranched and raised registered Hereford cattle with his brothers, Don and Dale, doing business as Thompson Brothers Herefords. She moved to McCook in 1975, and to Fremont in December of 1999.

She was a member of the Federated Women's Club, the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Circle 4. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Chester, in 1973; three brothers, Virgil Fassler, Walter Fassler and Donald Fassler; four sisters Neva Ball, Lucille Squires, Lorene Fassler, and Marion Drain; an infant son, John Thompson; and an infant great-grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Joanne and husband, Tom Winter Chaser of Mission, S.D. and Nancy and husband, John Wetherholt of Fremont; one son, Robert Thompson and wife, Gini of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be Monday, 11 a.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Inez Foster officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 2-8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name.
