SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Mary Genevieve (Bell) Volentine was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Plainview, Texas to Marcus F. and Emma Bell. She passed away June 23, 2002, at her home in Santa Barbara, Calif. On Nov. 10, 1935, she married Myatt Wesley Volentine in McCook. They lived in McCook for several years before moving to California.
She was a lifetime active member of Assistance League of Santa Barbara, LaCumbre Country Club, Santa Barbara Women's Club, Hadras Madrinas and All Saints by the Sea Episcopal Church also in Santa Barbara. She was also a member of the BPO Does Drove No. 3 in McCook.
She and her late husband established the Myatt W. Volentine Foundation, which has been funding scholarships, hospitals and many more charitable organizations in Nebraska and California for quite some time.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane K. Hayes; and a son, William M. Volentine and wife, Mary Patricia of Santa Barbara; grandchildren, Shannon and husband, Lee Ugarte, Shawn and wife, Marie Hayes all of Escondido, Calif., David Popenhagen and wife, Leta and Nancy Popenhagen of Loveland, Colo., Eirrena and husband, Barry Carnes of Camarillo, Calif. and Myatt Volentine of Santa Barbara; great-grandchildren, Robin and husband, Mike Echard and Renea Popenhagen of Loveland, Ashley and Alisha Ugarte and Kaila and Chance Hayes of Escondido, Brianna and Beathney Carnes of Camarillo; two step-great-grandchildren, Michael and Jessica Reardon; and one great-great-grandchild, Kayle Echard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myatt Wesley Volentine on Feb. 16, 2001; a step-daughter, Royce Popenhagen of Loveland; her parents; and a sister, Pearl Peterson of Holdrege.

All Saints By The Sea Episcopal Church at 83 Eucalyptus Lane, Montecito, Calif. will hold a memorial service July 12, 2002, at noon. Welch & Ryce Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
