BEAVER CITY -- Opal E. Penrod, 97, died Friday (July 5, 2002) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital from an auto accident which occurred June 27, 2002, north of Norton, Kan.
She was born July 11, 1904, to Rosswell and Tillie (Wolfe) Shellenbarger at Hendley. She grew up on a farm near Beaver City.
On July 24, 1920, she married Albert "Ab" Penrod at Norton. They were engaged in several businesses including farming and a dairy business before retiring in 1970. She moved to Oxford in November 2001. She was a member of the First Christian Church and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Beaver City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert "Ab" in 1994; and a son, Kenneth in 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Clari Penrod and wife, June of Mesa, Ariz. and Merlin Penrod of Oxford; one daughter, Nettie Park of Cambridge; one sister, Ardis and husband, Noel Gibson of Kearney; 13 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City with Keith Theobald officiating.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.
