Inez Neomi Tecker

PARKS - Inez Neomi (Teachman) Tecker, 97, died Sunday (July 14, 2002) at Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colo.

She was born Nov. 19, 1904, on a farm home near Ceresco, to James Henry and Ruth Miller Teachman. She attended country school until the sixth grade when her family moved to University Place, a suburb of Lincoln. She graduated from University Place High School in 1921. The next seven years she alternated between teaching in country schools and studying for her teacher's certificate. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1928.

In May of 1931, she married Ned Tecker at Parks. The couple along with Ned's father, Frank D. Tecker, continued to operate a ranch at Parks and their summer resort, Forest Inn, located in Rocky Mountain National Park. Forest Inn was later sold in 1954. She moved to Hillcrest Care Center this spring.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She also served on state and national committees of the Y.W.C.A. She organized a group of Y-Teen girls in the Parks High School. She represented her local district on the Nebraska Commission on Aging. She was a member and past president of the Nebraska Sod House Society, a member of P.E.O. and Order of Eastern Star. She served on the Parks School Board, Hester Memorial Home Board, Extension Council, and was a charter member of the Dundy County Historical Society. She worked on the committee responsible for publishing the Dundy County History Book and the committee that wrote the Dundy County history for the State Farm Bureau Book. She also co-chaired the festivities as Dundy County celebrated the Bicentennial in 1976.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned; her parents, and all of her brothers and sisters and their spouses.

Survivors include her son, Hal Tecker and wife, Doris; three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Haigler with the Rev. Richard Pierson officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
