TRENTON -- Eugene Owens, 70, died Wednesday (July 17, 2002) at his home in Trenton.
He was born Jan. 16, 1932, to Melvin and Dortha (Davis) Owens in Hitchcock County. He grew up in Trenton and attended Trenton High School. He worked construction on the Trenton Dam until the late 1950s. He then began working in the oil fields in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. He retired in 1980. Following his retirement he opened up taverns in Stratton and Trenton.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Lemay; one son, Tommy Owens; one brother, Dean Owens and one sister, Arlene Seybold and her husband, Delbert.
Survivors include three sons, Billie and wife, LaNita Owens of Trenton, Ronnie and wife, Frankie Owens and Ricky and wife, Carol Owens, all of Wiley, Colo.; three daughters, Terri and husband, Ron Avery of Lamar, Colo., Sherri and husband, Dave Richardson of Florence, Miss., and Ryan Owens of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Geraldine and husband, Dennis Slater of Sun City, Ariz., Janice and husband, Larry Schnabel and Linda and husband, John Cook, all of Trenton; and 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Trenton Cemetery with Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will be at Trenton Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in his name and friends may call Saturday at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.
