CURTIS -- Valena Wilson, 84, died Sunday (July 28, 2002) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was born July 6, 1918, to John and Sarah Slightom Weiss east of Stockville. She graduated from Stockville High School in 1935.

On Oct. 16, 1935, she married Lee Wilson at Oberlin. They farmed south of Moorefield for most of their lives. She moved to Sunset Haven in 2001, and was presently a resident of Hillside Estates Assisted Living in Curtis.

She was a member of G.G.G. Club at Moorefield and the Stockville Card Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee in 1986; one daughter, Shirley Welch; one brother, Emory Weiss; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Verna Dee and husband, Gary Larsen of Johnson Lake; two sons, Lorne Wilson and wife, Mary of Cozad and Owen Wilson and wife, Deanna of Moorefield; one son-in-law, Del "Buzz" Welch, Jr. of North Platte; three sisters, Ruth and husband, Dwaine Shinley of Stockville, Mary Bell Mayer of Burlingame, Calif. and Darlene Surber of Sidney; one brother, Bill Weiss and wife, Connie of McCook; one sister-in-law, Rona Rylant of Mulvane, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Congregational Church in Stockville with the Rev. Leon Banzhaf officiating. Burial will be at the Moorefield Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Frontier County Emergency Medical Technicians or to the Curtis Senior Center.
