Sophia C. O'Brien

CAMBRIDGE -- Sophia C. O'Brien, 96, died Tuesday (July 30, 2002) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born May, 23, 1906, to John F. and Caroline (Arthaud) Brinkman in Gosper County. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1923.

On April 10, 1929, she married Joseph L. O'Brien. The coupled farmed in the Cambridge area. She later moved to the Parkside Manor and resided there until her death.

She was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and altar society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 1977; one brother, Francis; and two sisters, Etta O'Brien and Alta Jones.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen and husband, Willard Moore of Mesa, Ariz., Millie and husband, Chuck Suiter of Lincoln and Ann Marie and husband, Bob Streble of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Leon O'Brien and wife, Carolyn of Cambridge and Bob O'Brien and wife, Sandi of Grand Island; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Mel Rempe officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Cambridge.

The rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating.

Memorials may be given in her name to the Cambridge Senior Center.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge is in charge of arrangements.
