GOTHENBURG -- Irene Dorothy Woodburn, 83, died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
She was born Aug. 22, 1918, to Phillip and Eunice Irene (Snyder) Helzer in Mayfield Township on the family farm near Cairo. She graduated from Cairo high school in 1934. She received her cosmetology license in April of 1937. In later years, she ran a beauty shop on wheels for shut-ins.
On Nov. 15, 1939, she married Alfred V. "Woody" Woodburn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Gothenburg Golf Club, the Elks, a birthday club, PEO, a dance club and several bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, "Woody", one brother and his wife, Paul Albert and Leota Helzer.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen and husband, Donald Turnquist of Hutchinson, Kan., and Gayleen and husband, Steven Fries of Culbertson; two sons, Dr. Donald Woodburn and wife, Vicki of Lincoln and Phyl Woodburn of Wahoo; one sister, Phyllis and husband, Roy Pressler of North Platte; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Tim Travers officiating. Burial will be in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday from 1-9 p.m. The family will greet friends from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the United Methodist Church.
