OBERLIN -- Grace Hoppas, 84, died Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
She was born March 23, 1918, to Walter and Gertrude (Oxley) Castle at Pleasant Dale. She grew up in Oberlin and attended Hillsdale Country School before graduating from Decatur Community High School in 1937.
On Jan. 1, 1939, she married Virgil Hoppas in Oberlin. The couple lived on a farm near Dresden and later moved to Oberlin. She was a farm wife and homemaker and also worked for a time as a store clerk in Oberlin.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors and the Rebekah Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil of Oberlin; one son, Stephen Hoppas and wife, Jean Ann of Junction City, Kan.; one brother, Walter Castle and wife, Joanne of Oberlin; one sister, Opal and husband, Victor Bryan of Oberlin; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were today, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Rev. Doug Hasty officiating. Interment was in the Oberlin Cemetery.
