CAMBRIDGE -- Ralph Helt, Jr., 78, died today (Sept. 6, 2002) at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.
He was born June 6, 1924, to Ralph Sr. and Fern (Larson) Helt in Lebanon. He grew up in Lebanon where he attended Lebanon High School.
On July 3, 1943, he entered the U. S. Navy and he served in World War II. He received his general education diploma and then re-entered the Navy and served in the Korean Conflict.
He was employed by Standard Oil Company until 1964, when he returned to Nebraska and worked in commercial construction. For 15 years, he was employed with Red Willow County in the maintenance department. He retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Jack Helt American Legion Post No. 313 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1504 of North Platte.
Survivors include two step-children, Terry and wife, Jackie Wilbourn of Holdrege and Sheri and husband, Eddie Peterman of Lyons, Kan.; one brother, Frank and wife, Betty Helt of Ogallala; one sister, Eva Mae and husband, Vernon Bass of North Platte; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Services will be Monday, 10 a.m., at Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon with Veteran Chaplin Ray Haag officiating.
Friends may call the funeral home Saturday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Saturday 1-6 p.m.
Memorials may be left in his name at the funeral home.
