OBERLIN -- Merle D. Pavlicek, 72, died Thursday (Sept. 5, 2002) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.

He was born Aug. 15, 1930, to Joseph and Flossie (Cousins) Pavlicek in rural Rexford, Kan. He attended schools in Menlo, Kan., Gem, Kan. and Oberlin.

On Oct. 4, 1952, he married Newtalene Kiger in Oberlin. He was a construction laborer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Newtalene.

Survivors include his son, Kenten Pavlicek and wife, Trudi of Liberal, Kan.; one daughter, Joyce Pavlicek of Oberlin; two brothers, Murry Pavlicek and wife, Audrey of Oberlin and Melvin Pavlicek and wife, Linda of Watunga, Okla.; two sisters, Dixie Russell of Amarillo, Texas and Karen Cassen of Albuquerque, N.M.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

There will be no funeral services.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center or Hospice.

Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin is in charge of arrangements.
