ATWOOD -- Alice Collier Samson, 98, died Saturday (Sept. 28, 2002) at the Lantern Park Manor in Colby, Kan.
She was born Oct. 19, 1903, to John R. and Anna Jane (Evans) Collier in Rawlins County six miles west of Chardon on the family farm. She graduated from the Rawlins County High School with the class of 1921. She then went to Hays, Kan., to get her teaching certificate. She taught seven years in the rural districts of the county. She later attended Barnes Business College in Denver, Colo. In 1932, she was elected to the office of County Treasurer in Rawlins County where she served two terms. She then served as deputy for her sister, Bessie Ann, for two terms.
In 1943, she married Adel Samson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adel; one sister, Bessie Collier Peterson; a half-sister, Elizabeth Collier Garver; half-brothers, Cyrus Collier, Jack Collier and Guy Doty.
Survivors include her son, Gene Samson and wife, Patsy of Atwood; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Atwood with the Rev. Kent Morgan officiating. Interment will be in the Atwood Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m. and Wednesday until service time.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Atwood City Library.
