GOTHENBURG -- A.T. "Tolle" Tollefson, 90, died Wednesday (Oct. 2, 2002) at his home in Gothenburg.
He was born April 21, 1912, to Olaf and Ida (Thompson) Tollefson at Viroqua, Wis. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1931. He graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in 1935. He taught school in Hills, Minn.
On Aug. 6, 1937, he married Elaine Margaret Cowan at Luverne, Minn. He then taught in Bloomfield and later was employed by Dupont, working on the Manhattan Project and many different places throughout the country. They came to Gothenburg in 1945, where he owned and operated Kampfe & Tollefson Department Store. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of the American Lutheran Church, the Lions Club of Gothenburg and the School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Thea, Lylis and Margaret; one brother, Obed; and one sister, Esther.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine of Gothenburg; one daughter, Mary and husband, Douglas Vap of McCook; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, Minn.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be given in his name to the American Lutheran Church, Central Plains Hospice or Donor's Choice.
