Lulu D. "Lou" Balius, 86, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) at the Holton Manor Home in Holton, Kan.
She was born April 17, 1916, in Trenton to Samuel Clayton and Eva Mae (Parrott) Cobb. She grew up in Stratton and moved to McCook where she graduated from McCook High School in 1932.
On Aug. 23, 1934, she married Wilbur J. Balius and they have spent their lives in McCook. She worked as a self-employed housekeeper and during World War II, she worked at the McCook Air Base and later was manager of the M&E Cafe. She began working at the St. Patrick's Rectory and school, where she worked until her retirement in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Wilbur in 1984.
Survivors include one daughter, Lorena and husband, Dan Mehringer of Holton; two sisters, Virginia Brandt and Valasta Viola and husband, Herman Pritchett all of McCook; and three grandsons.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Harlan Waskowiak officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral and inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in McCook.
The rosary will be recited Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. at Herrmann Memorial Chapel.
