PALISADE -- Doris Lucille "Cookie" Ross Schipman, 88, of Palisade died Saturday (Oct. 5, 2002) at Hospice of Johnston in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was born Oct. 4, 1914, at Mound City, Mo. to James Edgar and Julia Ann (McCumber) Ross. At the age of one year her family moved to a farm near Stratton and later moved to Eden Precinct, where she completed grade school and attended high school at Stratton. She later moved to Palisade which has been her home since. She was the cook at Hamlet public school for six years and the Benkleman public school for ten years.
On Aug. 28, 1939, she married Arion Schipman in Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arion; two infant brothers and three sisters, Selma, Marjorie and Hazel.
Survivors include: her son, Don Schipman and wife, Peggy of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Palisade with the Rev. Michael Laing officiating. Burial was in the Palisade Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name.
