OBERLIN -- Wayne LeRoy Wheeler, 71, died Sunday (Oct. 13, 2002) at the Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Dellvale, Kan., to Fred Enoch and Lela Faye (Gaylord) Wheeler. He attended District No. 81 School in Norton County and Norton High School.
He served in the U.S. Army.
On Sept. 4, 1953, he married Delores Marie Jording in Oberlin. The couple resided in Norton before moving to Oberlin in 1966. He worked as a combination man for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1952-1994.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Oberlin American Legion Post No. 70; Herndon Veterans of Foreign Wars, Oberlin Fire Department, National Rifleman's Association, AARP, Telephone Pioneers, Norton Jaycees and the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Charla Rae; brothers, Dale Wheeler and Henry Wheeler; and sister, Faye Lela Reigan.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Oberlin; two daughters, Paula and husband, Adrian Tadlock of Brush, Colo., and Patricia and husband, Lorn Dizmang of Moorefield; one sister, Anna Ruth Huber of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside memorial services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Oberlin Cemetery with the Rev. Chad Eckles officiating. There will be no visitation.
