He was born Dec. 30, 1925, at Atwood to Joseph Frank and Nellie Mae (Palmer) Makings. He served four and one-half years in the U.S. Army.
On Feb. 29, 1949, he married Patricia Ann Beamgard. He was a resident of the Rawlins County area most of his life and had also lived several years in Longmont, Colo. He was a carpenter, specializing in home construction.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Shriners and the Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leslie, Roy and Clifford; and four sisters, Nelma, Ida, Irene and an infant sister.
Survivors include his former wife, Patricia; son, John Makings and Kelly Lewis of Driggs, Idaho; two daughters, Rebecca and husband, Carey Lang of Atwood and Sally Lucarelli of Longmont; one sister, Mary Bliss of Atwood; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont with David Bradshaw of Lifebridge Christian Church officiating.
A graveside inurnment will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at the Atwood Fairview Cemetery in Atwood with the Rev. Terry McGuire officiating. Military rites will follow by Sam Hubbard American Legion Post No. 46 of Atwood.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be given to the Atwood Second Century Fund.
