Sylvia Elizabeth Mihm

Sylvia Elizabeth Mihm died on Saturday, October 19, 2002, at McCook Community Hospital. She was 76 years old.

Sylvia was born on January 28, 1926, at McCook, to Mirl LeRoy and Ola Elizabeth (VanVleet) Townsend. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1943 and attended Kearney State College. She taught school for two years.

On October 20, 1945, she married Clifford Bernard Mihm at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola. To this union three children were born. Sylvia and Clifford made their home on a farm Northwest of Indianola until 1997, when they moved to Indianola.

Sylvia worked in the cafeteria for the Republican Valley Schools for 23 years. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Altar Society, Why Worry Club, Circle 12 Club, and Town and Country Card Club. She was active in 4-H for many years and enjoyed crocheting, crafts, cooking and gardening.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Mirl and Ola Townsend; one brother, Dole Townsend; and one sister, Leora Theis.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Mihm of Indianola; one daughter, Myrna Snodgrass of Exeter; two sons, Ron Mihm and wife, Teresa, of Lincoln and Dennis Mihm and wife, Mary, of Indianola; one brother, Delbert Townsend of Ft. Washington, MD; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous family members and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name.

The rosary was recited Monday, October 21, 2002, 7:30 p.m. at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.

Mass of Christian Burial was today, October 22, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola with Father Nicholas J. Baker officiating. Burial was at St. Catherine's Cemetery.

Carpenter Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of the arrangements.
