He was born May 13, 1922, at Palisade to Lewis and Gladys (Kirkpatrick) Russell. He graduated from Hayes County High School at Hayes Center and was a longtime Hayes County Farmer.
On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Verla Anderson at Oberlin.
He was a member of the East Hill Church of Christ where he was formerly a Deacon. He was also a member of the York Toastmasters, York County Aging Commission Committee and York Busy Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Verla of York; one son, John Russell and wife, Carrie of Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Lorie and husband, Mel Poppe of Sutton and Lisa and husband, Chip Bloecher of Kansas City, Mo; son-in-law, Mike McCollough of Firth; brother-in-law, Ralph Wach of Albany, Ore.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the East Hill Church of Christ in York with Bruce Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at York.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today at Metz Mortuary in York.
Memorials may be given in his name to York College.
