ARAPAHOE -- Bernard H. Schutz, 83, died Friday (Nov. 1, 2002) at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital at Cambridge.
He was born Dec. 13, 1918, to Martin and Sophia (Stagemeyer) Schutz in rural Eustis. he attended school at Salem Lutheran Parochial School. After school, he farmed with his father and various neighbors until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. After being discharged in 1946, he moved back to Nebraska.
On Oct. 19, 1947, he married Margaret E. Wagner at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis. They made their home at Orafino. In 1954, they moved to a farm east of Arapahoe. He was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church and upon moving to Arapahoe, transferred his membership to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother-in-law, Earl Wagner.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Arapahoe; one brother, Wilfred and wife, Judy Schutz of Lincoln; and one sister, Agnes and husband, Gilbert Leising of Arapahoe.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Carl Lilienkamp officiating. Burial will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe with military honors by the Arapahoe Veterans Organization.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at Williamson-Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
