PARKS -- Garold E. Smith, 86, died Monday (Nov. 4, 2002) at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
He was born March 3, 1916, at Oswego, Kan., to Elmer and Rosella (Blalock) Smith. At an early age, he moved with his family to their farm near Parks, and he attended country school near his home as well as Parks High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and after receiving his honorable discharge, returned to Dundy County where he worked on the farm.
On Feb. 11, 1946, he married Emma Belle Lambert. In addition to his farming activities, he owned and operated a house moving service and moved numerous structures throughout the tri-state area. For many years he also bought and sold furs throughout the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Emma Belle.
Survivors include his daughters, Marjorie Sarkar of Chicago, Ill., Wilda Floden of Ames, Iowa, Kathy and husband, Kenneth Morrison of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Douglas Smith and wife, Beverly of Cambridge; and nine grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the Benkelman Cemetery with the Rev. George Matthews officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 9-10 a.m. at Forch Funeral Chapel of Benkelman.
