Raymond Warren Drain was born in McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska, on his father's birthday, July 13, 1920. He was the son of Joseph Samuel and Sylvia Jane (Heskett) Drain and he had one sister, Ruth Klocke and two brothers, Elmer (Buster) and Merwin. Raymond had been suffering with the affects of several strokes and pancreatic cancer in the past year and he passed away Friday at 2 a.m., at the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 26 days of age at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Raymond, a resident of the McCook area all of his life, was raised on a farm south of McCook. He was very proud of the Nebraska State Grand Champion beef he raised as a youth. Raymond worked with horses on the farm and he loved horses all of his life.

He married Roberta Ellen Haining on Feb. 14, 1943. They were the parents of two daughters and two sons. Raymond served on Guam in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for International Harvester, Sticklers Auto-Lite, Sunglow Dairy, and TRW before retiring. Raymond and Roberta were loyal long time members of the First Christian Church of McCook.

Raymond was preceded in death by Roberta, his wife of 45 years, his parents, two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Jon) Almquist of Sierra Vista, Ariz., retired Lt. Col. Dennis (Jan) Drain of Layton, Utah, Anita Drain of Hay Springs and Richard (Sandra Stahl) Drain of Phoenix, Ariz. Raymond leaves a legacy of nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 11, 2002, 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in McCook, with pastors Nolan and Barbara Pierce officiating. Interment will be at the Grove Cemetery (Stone Church), south of Culbertson.

Visitation will be Saturday until noon and Sunday 2-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Raymond's name to the McCook Senior Center.

Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
