OMAHA -- Gary Leon Purdy, 62, died Monday (Nov. 11, 2002) at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
He was born June 21, 1940, to Clyde and Beulah (Einspahr) Purdy at Wauneta. He attended grade school and high school at Wauneta.
He served in the U.S. Navy and after his discharge he returned to Wauneta.
On June 28, 1959, he married Dorene Maye Mathews in McCook. The couple settled in Wauneta where he was employed by the Chase County Department of Roads. They moved to Imperial in 1975, and in 1983, began careers as regional motel managers based in Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his father; father and mother-in-law, Willard and Inez Mathews; three brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, Dorene of Omaha; three sons, Ricky Purdy and wife, Noelle of Collins, Iowa, Craig Purdy and wife, Laura of Kearney and Randy Purdy and wife, Mary of Elm Creek; one daughter, Kristie and husband, Ed Loudermilk of Bellevue; his mother, Beulah Purdy of Omaha; sister, Marles Rowley of Herndon; two brothers, Ronald Purdy and wife, Sherrie of Ogallala and Jerry Purdy and wife, Tina of Imperial; four brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Wesleyan Church of Imperial with the Rev. Melvin K. Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Imperial.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory.
