ARAPAHOE -- Meta Louise Chambers, 91, died Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2002) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
She was born Jan. 24, 1911, to George and Maria (Helms) Wendland in Gosper County. She attended Emmanuel Lutheran Parochial School. After school, she worked for various neighbors cleaning houses. She then attended beautician school in Denver, Colo.
On Sept. 12, 1929, she married Allen H. Chambers in Minden. They moved north of Arapahoe where they farmed. Following the death of her husband in 1984, she continued to live on the farm.
She was a member of Christian Church of Christ of Arapahoe, Arapahoe Women's Club, and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen; two brothers, Oscar and Johnny Wendland; and two sisters, Minnie Monter and Helen Wendland.
Survivors include two sons, Bill Chambers and wife, Glenda of Tuscon, Ariz., and Terry Chambers and wife, Elloise of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Christian Church of Christ in Arapahoe with the Rev. Milton Jones officiating. Burial will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Christian Church of Christ.
