SELDEN -- August "Gus" W. Bruggeman, 90, died Saturday (Dec. 21, 2002) at his home in Selden.
He was born May 11, 1912, to Tony and Margaret (Wolf) Bruggeman on a farm east of Selden. He was raised on the farm where he was born. He attended Cresco Country School and graduated from Selden Rural High School in 1931.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He then lived on the family farm and was a farmer and stockman before moving into Selden.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Anton Bruggeman; sister, Doretta Bruggeman; and one niece.
Survivors include one sister, Bertha Bruggeman; and two nephews, Darrell Bruggeman and wife, Carlene of Selden and Melvin Bruggeman and wife, Karen of Hays, Kan.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden with the Rev. Mathew Vazhappily and the Rev. James Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Selden Cemetery.
A vigil service will be today, 7 p.m., at the funeral home in Selden.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8-9:30 a.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Hospice.
