BENKELMAN -- Berniece M. Russell, 89, died Sunday (Dec. 29, 2002) at Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman.
She was born June 7, 1913, on her family's farm north of Benkelman to Earl "Vic" and Mayme (Bond) Ham, and attended country school near her home. She later attended Benkelman High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1931.
On Feb. 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Gerald Russell at her parent's home. They farmed northeast of Benkelman until 1958 when they moved to a farm near Torrington, Wyo. In 1967, she moved to Henry, and in 1987, she returned to Benkelman.
She was a member of the Benkelman United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death are her parents, Earl and Mayme Ham; husband, Gerald Russell; sister, Audrey Ham; and brothers, Vaughn and Dale Ham.
Survivors include her daughter, Penny Russell of Burley, Idaho; sons, James Russell and wife, Eva of Benkelman, Walter Russell and wife, Sharon of Palmyra, Wis., Fred Russell and wife, Pat of Torrington, Wyo., Kenneth Russell and wife, Norma of Farmington, N.M.; sister, Jean Edwards and husband, Don of Tacoma, Wash.; and brothers, Arden Ham and wife, Joyce of Benkelman, Norlin Ham and wife, Myrna of Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m., at the Benkelman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Norman Prather officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.
