BEAVER CITY -- Charles A. Crawford, 86, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003) at the Beaver City Manor.
He was born June 14, 1916, to John and Mable (Tonkinson) Crawford at Madrid. He was raised in the Lexington area. He moved to the Denver, Colo., area in the mid 1930's.
On Aug. 1, 1937, he married Grace Grove at Denver. They moved to Southern California in 1941, where he worked as a welder for the Conrock Corporation.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and returned to work for Conrock Corporation.
The couple moved to Beaver City following retirement in 1978, and resided there since. He entered the Beaver City Manor on Dec. 14, 2002.
He was a member of the Christian Church in California but attended Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Grace; and one sister, Ruby Hatcher.
Survivors include one son, Tim Crawford and wife, Melody of Beaver City; two brothers, Robert Crawford and wife, Beth of Denver, Colo., and Don Crawford of Sterling, Colo.; one sister, Lucille Harms of Sterling, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 1:30 p.m., at Grace Brethren Church in Beaver City with Keith Theobald officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.
Viewing and visitation will be today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home in Beaver City and prior to services Saturday at the church.
