OBERLIN -- Irene Powell, 82, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
She was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Lebanon, to Fred C. and Gladys Irene (Zweigle) Jolly. She was raised in the Lyle, Kan., area and attended Jolly Hill Grade School. She graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1938.
On Feb. 19, 1939, she married James Powell in Norcatur. They resided on a farm in the Lyle community. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lyle United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Jimmy Powell; and brothers, Evald Jolly and Carl Jolly. Survivors include a son, Allan Powell and wife, Patricia of McCook; one daughter, Coleen and husband, LaVerne Rippe of Lebanon; one brother, Alfred Jolly and wife, Barbara of Wilsonville; sister, Leila Weyeneth of McCook; sister-in-law, June Jolly of Lyle; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Charles Keller officiating. Interment will be in the Lebanon Cemetery at Lebanon.
Visitation is Sunday from 1-8 p.m., and Monday after 8 a.m. Memorials may be given in her name to the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center or the Lebanon Cemetery Directory.
