Virginia R. Hamrick, 84, died Friday (Dec. 27, 2002) at Hillcrest Nursing home after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born Dec. 13, 1918, to Arthur B. and Vienna R. (Brocius) Cain in Burnsville, W.Va. She grew up in Burnsville and graduated from the Burnsville High School in 1935.
On May 7, 1942, she married Arlen Hamrick in Buckhannon, W.Va.
She lived in West Virginia and Cortland, Ohio before moving to McCook. She was a nurses aid at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio for twelve years, leaving in July 1968. They moved back to West Virginia and she was a care giver. After her husband died she moved to Cortland where she retired. She moved to Hillcrest Nursing Home in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband ; a son, Jerry; a brother, Roy; an infant grandson; and a granddaughter.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Hamrick and wife, Cheryl of McCook; a daughter, Deloris "Jane" and husband, Ron Barrick of Cortland; a sister, Oneta Tolley of Riverside, Calif.; and two step-sisters, Bonnie and husband, James Reardon of Cooper City, Fla., and Jean and husband, Don Akins of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were Monday (Dec. 30, 2002), 2 p.m., with rosary at 1:15 p.m., at the Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Brethour officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
Memorials may be given to Hillcrest Nursing Home.
