Lena F. Harris, 85, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) at her home in McCook.
She was born Jan. 29, 1918, at Marion, to Lewis and Agnes (Shewmaker) Hornkohl. She grew up at Marion where she graduated from Marion High School.
On March 11, 1946, she married Lyle Kilpatrick. She spent her adult life in McCook where she was employed by F.W. Woolworth for 18 years before working in the McCook Public Schools cafeteria for eight years. She retired in 1997.
On Dec. 27, 1961, she married Byron "Pete" Harris in McCook.
She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary where she was treasurer for 25 years. She was the Auxiliary's Mother of the Year and selected the Grandmother of the Year by the Nebraska Eagles Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Lyle Kilpatrick and Byron "Pete" Harris; one son, Gary Kilpatrick; one brother, Cecil Hornkohl; and two sisters, Ethel Hornkohl and Edna Bales.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie and husband, Mike Goscha of Sidney and Patsy Kilpatrick of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two sons, Kent Kilpatrick and wife, Lisa and Kirk Kilpatrick and wife, Becky all of McCook; one step-daughter, Dorothy and husband, Don Jussel of Denver, Colo; two brothers, Harold Hornkohl and wife, Ramona of Marion and Ray Hornkohl and wife, Lori of Chicago, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Steve Bales officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery at McCook.
Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at the funeral home.
