STRATTON -- Leland W. Dicke, 80, died Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
He was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Hitchcock County, south of Palisade, to Frederick William and Eunice Mae (Baughman) Dicke. He attended country school near his home through the eighth grade in District 13, and went on to attend high school in Stratton where he was a member of the graduating class of 1940. After graduation, he farmed with his father.
On Dec. 2, 1947, he married Edna Elizabeth Adkinson at Benkelman. They farmed north of Stratton until their retirement in 1996. He worked for Miller Weeder and Miller Manufacturing in Stratton for several years, and after retirement, moved into Stratton.
They were members of the Eden Missionary Church of Wauneta, and later changed their membership to the Christian Union Church in Stratton in 1954. He served on the church board for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Eunice Dicke; brother, Louis; sister, Helen Nilson and her husband, Warren.
Survivors include his wife Edna Dicke of Stratton; daughter, Joyce and husband, James McDuffee of York; sister, Dorothy Schinzel; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Christian Union Church in Stratton. Interment will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery at Stratton.
Visitation is today until 7 p.m. at the Forch Funeral Chapel in Stratton.
